Astronomers Race to Study a Mystery Object From Out Our Solar System –

On Oct. 19, Dr. Weryk had been reviewing pictures captured from the college’s Pan-STARRS 1 telescope to the island of Maui if he stumbled upon the item. Initially he believed that it was a kind of space rock called a near earth thing, however, he understood that its movement did not make sense. It was considerably quicker than any asteroid or comet he’d seen previously. He immediately realized it wasn’t of the solar system.

“It is moving so quickly that the Sun can not catch it in a orbit,” Dr. Weryk explained.

After calling a colleague in the European Space Agency to talk about the discover, he submitted it to the Minor Planet Center, which monitors objects from the solar panel, to discuss with other astronomers.

“I wasn’t hoping to see anything in this way during my profession, although we knew it was possible and that these items exist,” said Davide Farnocchia, a postsecondary engineer using NASA’s Center to Near-Earth Object Research in the Jet Propulsion Laboratory at Pasadena, Calif..
